Project Tittwiesenstrasse

Chur, Switzerland

PROJECT:

Heating system replacement from gas to renewable energy

OWNER:

Generali Versicherungen AG

COMPLETION:

2025

PROJECT TYPE:

Multi-family house

CHALLENGE:

To ensure the preservation of the building’s value, it was necessary to find a future-proof heating and cooling solution. The conversion had to be carried out without impairing its use.

SOLUTION:

With the Energy Cube, a quickly installable Plug & Heat solution was implemented in combination with two brine-to-water heat pump modules. During the heating season, it enables heating, and during the cooling season, it provides cooling.

PRODUCT:

Energy Cube H2-Type1 in combination with two heat pump modules SCT. 45 WP 86.7 kW

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Das Gebäude wurde mit Gas beheizt. Eine Kühlung des Gebäudes im Sommer, war nicht möglich. → The building was heated with gas. Cooling the building in summer was not possible.

1.) The architectural firm Ritter Schumacher AG was commissioned by the building owner to conduct a feasibility study for a building renovation. A dynamic building simulation by ZeroEdition GmbH revealed that, to preserve the building’s value—particularly in view of the anticipated climate changes by 2050—a heating system conversion to renewable energy is essential.

2.) A comparative study based on the HSLU heating cost calculator was prepared by the specialist planner RBT Engineering GmbH. The solution featuring the Energy Cube and brine-to-water heat pumps proved to be the most cost-effective option compared to district heating, deep drilling, air-to-water heat pumps, or wood combustion alternatives.

3.) In accordance with the implementation planning by Ritter Schumacher and RBT, the heating system replacement was carried out by the executing company Willi Gebäudetechnik AG. The Energy Cube was subsequently positioned outdoors adjacent to the parking area, in combination with a new bicycle parking facility, blending harmoniously into the local surroundings

In addition to its economic benefits, the Energy Cube produces no noise emissions and was connected to the energy system within minutes using a single supply and return connection. During heating operation, the Energy Cube draws its energy from the outside air. During cooling operation, it releases excess energy back into the outside air
