System Architecture

The heating system of the industrial building in Vöru (Estonia) replaces the existing oil heating system with a highly efficient environmental energy solution. The hydraulic basis is formed by two brine-to-water heat pump modules of the type sct. 45 WP (86.7 kW) in combination with two Energy Cubes (H1-Typ1).

The Role of the sct. Smart-Gate as System Orchestrator

The sct. Smart-Gate functions as a central control unit that integrates the new environmental energy solution and the existing infrastructure into a networked control environment.

Signal Processing & I/O Management: The Smart-Gate serves as a logical interface for controlling the heat pumps and Energy Cubes. It enables precise load distribution and coordinates the interaction between the new heat pump technology and the existing wood combustion system. Operating Mode Management: The intelligent control regulates the efficient operation of the heat pumps and ensures that the wood combustion system is switched on as needed for the utilization of wood residues during peak loads.

System Transparency: Through the implementation of the Smart-Gate, the entire plant technology – from the new heat source to the distributor – becomes digitally recordable and controllable for monitoring purposes. This allows for continuous monitoring of efficiency values and enables data readout at 5-second intervals if needed.

Conclusion for Plant Engineering

Through the use of the sct. Smart-Gate, the complex conversion from a fossil oil heating system to an automated Plug & Heat solution was successfully implemented without operational interruption. The Smart-Gate forms the essential interface that seamlessly combines modern heat pump technology with existing plant components.
